All Louisiana school children grades are eligible to enroll in Course Choice courses as long as the course is: a) academically appropriate; b) logistically “doable;” and c) keeps the student on track for an on-time graduation.
Students attending C, D or F public schools (including charter schools) are “eligible funded.” This means their Course Choice courses are paid for through public education funding – these courses are “free” to eligible funded students.
Students attending A or B public schools (including charter schools) are “eligible funded” only if they register for a course that is not given at their school. School counselors and the Course Choice Counselor Assistance Center can help students at A or B public schools determine if they are eligible funded for courses they want to choose.
(To find out what grade your school has, please go to the Department of Education website: http://www.louisianabelieves.com/data/reportcards/default.aspx )
All other students – including home schooled students and students attending private schools – are “eligible participating” or self-paying. These students may enroll in a Course Choice course, but they are obligated to pay the tuitions charged by the course provider. Eligible participating students should contact course providers directly to determine course availability and applicable tuitions.
Course Choice is an innovative educational program that provides Louisiana students with access to thousands of high-quality academic and career-oriented courses.
Approved course providers are offering core academic, Advanced Placement and CTE (career and technical education) courses, as well as test preparation courses and expansive college credit opportunities.
Through Course Choice, students can accelerate their academic progress, earning college credits and/or starting high-wage careers while they graduate on-time or early.
